Orthotics

At Palmetto O&P, every orthotic is thoughtfully crafted by hand to provide personalized support and comfort. We specialize in custom orthotics, shaping each piece with skill and care to meet the unique needs of every individual. Our experienced orthotists blend advanced technology with high-quality materials, ensuring that every orthotic enhances mobility, independence, and overall well-being. With dedication poured into every detail, we believe true craftsmanship begins with the hands that create it.

  • Custom Foot Orthotics

Designed to relieve foot, ankle, knee, hip, or back pain caused by conditions like plantar fasciitis, flat feet, or high arches. Each orthotic is made from a mold of the patient’s foot and tailored for optimal support and function—whether for daily wear, athletic use, or diabetic foot care.

  • Ankle-Foot Orthoses (AFO)

AFOs stabilize the ankle and foot to improve gait and prevent deformities. We offer rigid, hinged, or dynamic styles based on patient needs—for conditions like stroke, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, or foot drop.

  • Knee Orthoses (KOs)

Knee braces reduce pain, enhance joint stability, and support injury recovery. Indicated for arthritis, ligament injuries, or post-op rehab, we provide soft, semi-rigid, and rigid options, all fitted to patient anatomy and activity level.

  • Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthoses (KAFOs)

KAFOs provide extended support from thigh to foot for neuromuscular or orthopedic conditions such as spinal cord injury or severe instability. These braces aid safe ambulation and reduce joint pain.

  • Hip-Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthoses (HKAFOs)

Used for patients with limited or no lower-limb strength, HKAFOs offer total leg support, promoting upright posture and mobility. Custom-built for maximum alignment, stability, and safety.

  • Reciprocating Gait Orthoses (RGOs)

RGOs are specialized HKAFOs that allow a reciprocal walking motion for individuals with paralysis or spinal cord injuries. By linking hip joints, these devices enable more natural movement patterns and increased independence.

Lower Limb

Each device is handcrafted at Palmetto and custom-fit to ensure optimal comfort, mobility, and a natural walking pattern, empowering users to return to daily activities with confidence.

  • Knee Disarticulation Prosthetics

Knee disarticulation prosthetics are designed for those with amputations through the knee joint. We offer personalized solutions that preserve limb length, provide a stable base for walking, and maintain a symmetrical appearance. Options include advanced knee units and suspension systems tailored to the patient’s lifestyle and mobility goals.

  • Trans-Femoral (Above-Knee) Prosthetics

Our trans-femoral prosthetics are customized for individuals with above-knee amputations due to trauma, illness, or congenital conditions. Each device incorporates advanced socket design, suspension systems, and optional microprocessor-controlled knee units to enhance function, comfort, and confidence in all aspects of life—from walking to more vigorous activity.

  • Hip Disarticulation Prosthetics

Hip disarticulation prosthetics are among the most complex, requiring specialized expertise and care. Palmetto offers highly customized systems—including modern designs with microprocessor components—to maximize stability, movement, and independence. Our approach includes rehabilitation and support to help patients adjust to their prosthetics and reach their mobility goals.

    • Body-Powered Systems: Using harnesses and cables for manual control

Wound Care Management

Orthotic and prosthetic interventions play a critical role in managing and healing wounds, particularly in patients with diabetes, vascular disease, or trauma. At Palmetto O&P, we offer customized solutions that support healing, reduce complications, and restore function.

  • Here’s how they contribute:

    1. Offloading Pressure

Custom orthotics, braces, and specialized footwear help relieve pressure from vulnerable areas (such as diabetic foot ulcers), reducing irritation and promoting healing.

    2. Preventing Further Injury

Stabilizing devices protect high-risk areas, especially in patients with neuropathy or poor circulation, helping prevent wounds or new injuries.

    3. Post-Surgical and Amputation Support

Following amputations due to non-healing wounds, prosthetic devices restore mobility and help prevent secondary pressure sores from altered posture or gait.

    4. Immobilization for Healing

Orthotic devices can immobilize joints or high-motion areas, allowing wounds to heal undisturbed.

Palmetto’s wound care approach is part of a multidisciplinary effort, working in coordination with physicians, wound care specialists, and therapists to promote recovery and long-term health.
