HealthLinks South Carolina choose to recognize Heidi Collins, CEO as an impressive Woman in Health recipient for 2025. Heidi Collins has dedicated nearly 30 years to carving out a respected place for herself in the traditionally male-dominated field of orthotics and prosthetics. “I’ve had to work harder to establish my reputation, demonstrate my expertise, and earn the respect of my male colleagues,” she explains. “But I’ve learned to combine technical precision with the compassionate, patient-centered care that many women naturally bring to the table, making my approach unique.”

As both a woman and a mother, Heidi often connects with patients on a deeper, more empathetic level.

She measures her success by the life-changing impact of her work. “Helping someone walk again, witnessing a person regain independence with a prosthetic, or improving a child’s comfort and mobility – these moments aren’t just transformative for the patient; they’re profoundly rewarding for me as a practitioner,” she says.

For women considering a career in the field, Heidi offers encouragement and advice: “Trust your expertise and embrace the unique perspective you bring as a woman. Seek out mentors, remain open to learning, and advocate for yourself and others. And above all, find balance. Taking care of yourself is essential to effectively care for others.”

Heidi exemplifies that balance, seamlessly managing her roles as a certified orthotist and prosthetist, a leader in a family-owned business, and a wife. She also takes pride in working alongside her family: her parents, brother, and daughter are all part of the industry.

“I find inspiration in many aspects of my work,” she says with a smile. “The innovative advancements, the life-changing impact we have on patients, and the privilege of sharing this journey with my family. Together, we’re carrying forward a legacy built on expertise, experience, and values, which motivates me to give my best every day.”
